About Us

In introducing ourselves as the leading firm of Ship and Marine Surveyors in India, of over a hundred and thirty years standing, we mention briefly a few facts about ourselves and shall be glad to furnish any further details required.

In 1878 a Swedish gentleman by the name of Capt. Ericson started a Ship & Cargo surveying office in Bombay, India. In 1914, he was joined as partner by an Irishman, Capt. Richards. In 1953, the then partners Capt. H.J. Miller & Capt. J.J. Walmsley, both Englishmen, inducted Capt. Sam B. Aga, who was the first Indian Ship Master to join the firm and the first Indian to become a Ship Surveyor and be appointed by International Ship Classification Societies. Since 1963, the firm has been managed and run with Capt. Aga as senior partner at the helm. Capt. Sam Aga was succeeded by his son Capt. Behram Aga who has now passed on the torch of an enriched company to his three sons: Chief Engineer Kersi Aga, Capt. Xerxes Aga and Capt. Cyrus Aga.

Headquartered in Mumbai, we have been serving the International Maritime Fraternity for over a hundred and thirty seven years, and are now in all the major ports of India.

Our offices are manned by Master Mariners, Chief Engineers and others with varying technical qualifications with vast surveying experience. Our firm has earned a distinguished and undisputed reputation in India and abroad for its professionalism, expertise and findings in conformity with the highest standards and traditions of independent surveying.

Our principals are owners/agents of Indian and foreign ships and we attend on the majority of ships calling at Indian ports. We are accredited surveyors to Lloyds Agents, most of the P & I Clubs, and several Indian and foreign underwriters. We are non-exclusive surveyors to certain International Ship Classification Societies and also represent the International Cargo Gear Bureau, New York. We are Nautical Inspectors to the Governments of the Bahamas, Liberia, Marshall Islands (as filing agents), Vanuatu, Barbados as well as St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

We were nominated by the International Shipping Services Ltd., (I.S.S.) / I.N.S.B. as its Non-Exclusive Representative/Surveyor of the International Naval Surveys Bureau (I.N.S.B.), Greece, in India.

We are also non-exclusive/Acting Surveyors to China Register of Shipping, Taipei & NK, Tokyo and the Guardian Bureau of Shipping, Tartous, Syria, who are the recognised organisation for the Bolivian International Registry of ships.

The sphere of our surveys and services covers import/export of all cargoes - liquids, bulk and general.

We also undertake adjustment of Ships' Magnetic compasses.
